Unable to install 'cocoapods' gem from rubygems.org (bad response backend read error)
Though I'm not sure what caused read error 503
I was able to work around the problem fairly easily by manually installing the cocoapods.gem.
If anyone else experiences similar problems (with cocoapods or any other gem), download the appropriate gem file (cocoapods-0.27.1.gem in my case) directly from RubyGems.org. Then run the gem install cocoapods-0.27.1.gem
. The install command will scan the working directory first, thus detecting and installing the local gem package, cutting out the broken repository.
Pod install displaying error in cocoapods version 1.0.0.beta.1
You have to specify a target for each pod.
e.g. if before you had your Podfile written like this:
pod 'Alamofire', '~> 3.1.4'
pod 'SwiftyJSON', '~> 2.3.2'
just change it to
target "TargetName" do
pod 'Alamofire', '~> 3.1.4'
pod 'SwiftyJSON', '~> 2.3.2'
end
SSL Error When installing rubygems, Unable to pull data from 'https://rubygems.org/
For RVM & OSX users
Make sure you use latest rvm:
rvm get stable
Then you can do two things:
Update certificates:
rvm osx-ssl-certs update all
Update rubygems:
rvm rubygems latest
For non RVM users
Find path for certificate:
cert_file=$(ruby -ropenssl -e 'puts OpenSSL::X509::DEFAULT_CERT_FILE')
Generate certificate:
security find-certificate -a -p /Library/Keychains/System.keychain > "$cert_file"
security find-certificate -a -p /System/Library/Keychains/SystemRootCertificates.keychain >> "$cert_file"
The whole code: https://github.com/wayneeseguin/rvm/blob/master/scripts/functions/osx-ssl-certs
For non OSX users
Make sure to update package ca-certificates
. (on old systems it might not be available - do not use an old system which does not receive security updates any more)
Windows note
The Ruby Installer builds for windows are prepared by Luis Lavena and the path to certificates will be showing something like C:/Users/Luis/...

How to install a gem or update RubyGems if it fails with a permissions error
You don't have write permissions into the /Library/Ruby/Gems/1.8 directory.
means exactly that, you don't have permission to write there.
That is the version of Ruby installed by Apple, for their own use. While it's OK to make minor modifications to that if you know what you're doing, because you are not sure about the permissions problem, I'd say it's not a good idea to continue along that track.
Instead, I'll strongly suggest you look into using either rbenv or RVM to manage a separate Ruby, installed into a sandbox in your home directory, that you can modify/fold/spindle/change without worrying about messing up the system Ruby.
Between the two, I use rbenv, though I used RVM a lot in the past. rbenv takes a more "hands-off" approach to managing your Ruby installation. RVM has a lot of features and is very powerful, but, as a result is more intrusive. In either case, READ the installation documentation for them a couple times before starting to install whichever you pick.
flutter project pod install failed with error 419
