HTTP HEAD Request in Javascript/Ajax?

Easy, just use the HEAD method, instead of GET or POST:

This is just a short example to show how to use the HEAD method. Production code may need more fine-grained callbacks for different result states (success, failure, timeout), and may use different event handlers (onload, onerror and ontimeout rather than onreadystatechange).

The problem is that the single variables i and ajaxSizeRequest being captured by the callback function are the same variables for all instances of the callback function. I think if you call a function and pass the index variable to it and, at the same time, scope the request variable locally to the function itself use the response parameter of the done handler, you should end up with independent variables captured by the callback. It should then reference each array element and each response variable correctly.

The HEAD HTTP request type is similar to GET, but only returns the header part of the result.

In your code, it will get back the response's HTTP status code, but won't download the file itself.

HEAD request appears to be to transmitting resource, not just headers

I encourage you to set up Fiddler (or some other HTTP packet sniffer) and see what is actually going through the wire - exact requests sent and exact response received. This will help you troubleshoot whether the problem is on the server or the client.

If you want to add a custom header (or set of headers) to an individual request then just add the headers property:

If you want to add a default header (or set of headers) to every request then use $.ajaxSetup():

$.ajaxSetup({
    headers: { 'x-my-custom-header': 'some value' }

// Overwrites the default header with a new header
$.ajax({ url: 'foo/bar', headers: { 'x-some-other-header': 'some value' } });

If you want to add a header (or set of headers) to every request then use the beforeSend hook with $.ajaxSetup():

Edit (more info): One thing to be aware of is that with ajaxSetup you can only define one set of default headers and you can only define one beforeSend. If you call ajaxSetup multiple times, only the last set of headers will be sent and only the last before-send callback will execute.
