Changing iPad/iPhone simulator resolution for Xcode 4.3.2
The following hotkeys should be helpful:
- Command ⌘ + 1 (100%)
- Command ⌘ + 2 (75%)
- Command ⌘ + 3 (50%)
- Command ⌘ + 4 (33%)
- Command ⌘ + 5 (25%)
Look at menu: "Window --> Scale" to see the options.
Size of iPad Simulator is too big in XCodes 4.3.2
Maybe it's because the iPad 3 have a really large resolution (2048x1536). That's more than most computer screens. You will need to zoom out to display the entire screen just because of this, or you must get a larger (higher resolution) screen for your computer if you don't want to scale the program.
The reason for this is that the iPad 3 have much tighter pixel density than most other computer screens so each pixel on the iPad is smaller than each pixel on your computer screen.
Adjusting the Xcode iPhone simulator scale and size
You can't have 1:1 ratio.
However you can scale it from the iOS Simulator > Window > Scale
menu.
How to resize the iPhone/iPad Simulator?
⌘+1 for 100%
⌘+2 for 75%
⌘+3 for 50%
iOS Simulator too big
You can scale the simulator (both iOS and Apple Watch) from the Window > Scale menu, to 75%, 50%, 33%, or 25%:
This is enough to get even a Retina iPad simulator onto my 13" non-Retina screen.

Did you check this setting in the "general" tab in your project build settings is set to iPad instead of iPhone?
IPad simulator's screen resolution
The problem is that the physical resolution of your screen is lower than the physical resolution of the iPad’s screen. For example my iMac’s screen has 1920 pixels per ~19 inches of width, or roughly 100 pixels per inch. The iPad’s screen density is about 130 ppi, one third higher. If you’re serious about your app, you have to test on the real device anyway. (By the way, if you are simply talking about the window size, that can be changed in the Window menu or using ⌘1–⌘3 shortcuts.)
I need a version of iOS Simulator that includes iPad retina display
OK, I've found the answer, and considering there is zero documentation, I'm amazed that anyone else was ever able to find the simulator. Here's how you get there:
- Right-click on the Xcode file and select Show Package Contents
- Go Contents --> Developer --> Platforms --> iPhoneSimulator.platform
--> Developer --> Applications --> iOS Simulator
Intuitive, huh?
Why Apple decided to bury what is arguably the most used tool in the entire iOS SDK is something I will probably never know.
