How to Resize the Avd Emulator (In Eclipse)

How to resize the AVD emulator (in Eclipse)?

From within Eclipse:

  1. Go to Window > Android SDK and AVD Manager > Virtual Devices

  2. Select the AVD you want to launch and click Start

  3. Check the Scale display to real size button

  4. Enter how big you want it to appear in inches and press Launch. For this to work, you'll have to also enter a reasonable approximation of your mac's screen resolution. I'm using 7 inches and 113 dpi for my 13" Macbook Pro, but you may be able to get away with 8 or 9 inches.

Re-size Android emulator screen in Eclipse

Run > Run Configurations
Pick the "Target" tab
Scroll down to "Additional Emulator Command Line Options" and put in: "-scale 0.7" or another number

This will keep the AVD scaled even if it is started automatically by Eclipse.

Android Studio how to resize emulator without aspect ratio constraint

I found a decent solution from the experimental developer setting "Enable freeform windows" and this article: https://www.floatingapps.net/freeform

Steps:

  1. Turn on developer mode
  2. In Settings -> Developer options, turn on these settings
    under "Apps":
    • "Force activities to be resizable"
    • "Enable freeform windows"
  3. Reboot the virtual device
  4. Open your app
  5. Open "Overview" mode
  6. Long press on the app icon in the header and select "Freeform". You can now drag the corners of the app.

How can I test my app in 12.9 inches screen size in Windows 10?

  1. Open AVD Manager in Android Studio

  2. Click "Create Virtual Device"

  3. Click "New Hardware Profile"

You can configure hardware profile (screen size, resolution etc).
