Show Animated Gif

How to animate GIFs in HTML document?

By default browser always plays animated gifs, and you can't change that behavior. If the gif image does not animate there can be 2 ways to look: something wrong with the browser, something wrong with the image. Then to exclude the first variant just check trusted image in your browser (run snippet below, this gif definitely animated and works in all browsers).

Your code looks OK.
Can you check if this snippet is animated for you?

If YES, then something is bad with your gif, if NO something is wrong with your browser.

Display Animated GIF

Android actually can decode and display animated GIFs, using android.graphics.Movie class.

This is not too much documented, but is in SDK Reference. Moreover, it is used in Samples in ApiDemos in BitmapDecode example with some animated flag.

Is it possible to display animated gif in jetpack?

Apparently Compose is not supporting gif out of the box, I could not find any reference to gif files in the docs. However, one of the popular library out there to deal with gifs is Coil.

-> Here is coil for Compose:
https://coil-kt.github.io/coil/compose/

-> Make sure to add the gif extension:
https://coil-kt.github.io/coil/gifs/

-> You will have to override the ImageLoader and add the gif extension:

How to display an animated Gif in React Native

This worked for me. Setting height and width on Image prop did not show the gif. So I flexed it and added maxWidth and maxHeight.

const imageUrl = 'https://media.giphy.com/media/xT0xeCCINrlk96yc0w/giphy.gif';
const App = () => {

const { width } = useWindowDimensions();

return (
<View style={{flex: 1}}>
<Image style={{flex: 1, maxWidth: width, maxHeight: width}} source={{uri: imageUrl}}/>
</View>
);
};

iOS 11 animated gif display in UIImageView

iOS 11 does bring a native understanding of animated gifs, but that understanding, infuriatingly, is not built into UIImageView. It is still up to you to translate the animated gif into a sequence of UIImages. Apple now provides sample code, in terms of the ImageIO framework:

https://developer.apple.com/library/content/samplecode/UsingPhotosFramework/Listings/Shared_AnimatedImage_swift.html

That code implements an AnimatedImage class, which is essentially a collection of CGImages extracted from the original animated gif. Thus, using that class, we can display and animate the animated gif in a UIImageView as follows:

let url = Bundle.main.url(forResource: "wireframe", withExtension: "gif")!
let anim = AnimatedImage(url: url)!
var arr = [CGImage]()
for ix in 0..<anim.frameCount {
arr.append(anim.imageAtIndex(index: ix)!)
}
var arr2 = arr.map {UIImage(cgImage:$0)}
let iv = UIImageView()
iv.animationImages = arr2
iv.animationDuration = anim.duration
iv.frame.origin = CGPoint(0,100)
iv.frame.size = arr2[0].size
self.view.addSubview(iv)
delay(2) {
iv.startAnimating()
}
