Update May 4th, 2015:

Starting with Support Library 22.1 (blog post):

In this release, ActionBarActivity has been deprecated in favor of the new AppCompatActivity.

Has Someone had this problem before ? Any hint or advice on this?

This is not a problem but intended to help you apply the new design language by Google, named Material Design. One major change is the new UI widget called Toolbar. To use it you have to extend from ActionBarActivity as mentioned in a recent blog post by the Android developers. In this blog post you will also find more information about the Toolbar widget.

So if you're new, Google is just trying to help you to get right on track with the new elements and styles.

ADT will not allow creation of Android Activity

If you updated to Android SDK Tools version 22.6, you are required to Update DDMS Tools and Plugins.

Go to "Help Menu Bar" -> "Install New software" and install (this will update it)
url: https://dl-ssl.google.com/android/eclipse/

Also update "Developer Tools" and "NDK Plugins" to latest Version.
This steps is useful for me and worked also.

Android ADT: No fragment_main.xml, only activity_main.xml

Based on the versions you indicated in the comment response, I think updating to the later versions (22.6+) would help, as discussed in https://code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?id=67421

Eclipse creates fragment layout automatically, how can i disable it

Android heard our voice :).

Just upgrade or download ADT version to 23.0.2 or higher.

Now you can choose blank activity like this,
