Add a Header to a Gridview (Android)

Add a Header to a GridView (Android)

Google's implementation of HeaderGridView addresses this problem. They are subclassing GridView.

HeaderGridView

I believe this is either part of the Google+ Photos app or the Gallery native app.

Android GridView add header and footer like listview

I post this answer just want people who come here can get what the want.

Let's have a look the screen snapshot.

Screen Shot

the usage is very simple

GridViewWithHeaderAndFooter gridView = (GridViewWithHeaderAndFooter) v.findViewById(R.id.ly_image_list_grid);

LayoutInflater layoutInflater = LayoutInflater.from(this);
View headerView = layoutInflater.inflate(R.layout.test_header_view, null);
View footerView = layoutInflater.inflate(R.layout.test_footer_view, null);
gridView.addHeaderView(headerView);
gridView.addFooterView(footerView);

It'a single file project, now it hosts at GitHub: https://github.com/liaohuqiu/android-GridViewWithHeaderAndFooter

You can follow the link above to access the code. Happy coding.

How to add header in gridview

The horiontal gridview can be achieved by Recycler view.

For adding the heading, put a textview and the recycler view in a linear layout (with vertical orientation of course), something like this :

<LinearLayout orientation="vertical" ..... >
<Textview ...... />
<RecyclerView .... />
</LinearLayout>

And for achiving the horizontal view in recycler view, set the layoutmanager in java as :

recyclerView.setLayoutManager(new LinearLayoutManager(this, LinearLayoutManager.HORIZONTAL, false));

Note that, wrap_content is not yet supported by RecyclerView. To overcome that, you'd have to either

1) set minHeight/minWidth attribute.

2) use a custom layout manager

Adding a header and a footer to a gridview in Android

Just use multiple RelativeLayouts.

Create your header layout (50dp or whatever) aligned to parent top. Then create a second layout aligned to the bottom of the page (this will be your footer). Then have another layout set to "below" the header and "above" the footer which will contain your GridView.

It should look like:

<RelativeLayout
xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android"
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="match_parent" >

<RelativeLayout
android:id="@+id/header"
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="50dp"
android:layout_alignParentTop="true" >

/* ANYTHING YOU WANT IN YOUR HEADER */

</RelativeLayout>

<RelativeLayout
android:id="@+id/gridview"
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="fill_parent"
android:layout_below="@+id/header"
android:layout_above="@+id/footer" >

/* GRIDVIEW HERE */

</RelativeLayout>

<RelativeLayout
android:id="@+id/footer"
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="50dp"
android:layout_alignParentBottom="true" >

/* ANYTHING YOU WANT IN YOUR FOOTER */

</RelativeLayout>

</RelativeLayout>

Hopefully this helps.

Can a GridView have a footer and header just like ListView?

There is no support for header or footer views with GridView, sorry.

How to add header to GridView in android?

Initially i didn't analysed the entire code and when i gone through GitHub code instead of code given in google doc i found solution that, in google doc they didn't set column width for different Target-API's and i solved the problem by just replacing the Google source code by GitHub code Sample Image

How Can I add a header in gridview?

A GridView does not have columns. It is meant to arrange a flat (without columns) array of items two-dimensionally across the screen. You should use a TableLayout, which is intented to lay out columned rows.

When you use a TableLayout, you can add a header row as your first row and then add your data rows after that. There isn't a distinction between the two.
