How to Export All Data from Table to an Insertable SQL Format

How to export all data from table to an insertable sql format?

Quick and Easy way:

  1. Right click database
  2. Point to tasks In SSMS 2017 you need to ignore step 2 - the generate scripts options is at the top level of the context menu Thanks to Daniel for the comment to update.
  3. Select generate scripts
  4. Click next
  5. Choose tables
  6. Click next
  7. Click advanced
  8. Scroll to Types of data to script - Called types of data to script in SMSS 2014 Thanks to Ellesedil for commenting
  9. Select data only
  10. Click on 'Ok' to close the advanced script options window
  11. Click next and generate your script

I usually in cases like this generate to a new query editor window and then just do any modifications where needed.

Exporting data In SQL Server as INSERT INTO

In SSMS in the Object Explorer, right click on the database, right-click and pick "Tasks" and then "Generate Scripts".

This will allow you to generate scripts for a single or all tables, and one of the options is "Script Data". If you set that to TRUE, the wizard will generate a script with INSERT INTO () statement for your data.

If using 2008 R2 or 2012 it is called something else, see screenshot below this one

2008 R2 or later eg 2012

Select "Types of Data to Script" which can be "Data Only", "Schema and Data" or "Schema Only" - the default).

And then there's a "SSMS Addin" Package on Codeplex (including source) which promises pretty much the same functionality and a few more (like quick find etc.)

How to export all data from table to update MS SQL commands?

I use the Vroom SQL Script Generator for that. Its free and it does exactly what you are asking - generates insert/update scripts from a table. Just click on "Export Data", select the objects you want to export and then click the Generate button. If you need to really fine tune the way the script are generated then you can also use the built in automation scripting support - which is referenced at the bottom of the link.

How do I export a table's data into INSERT statements?

Check out the SSMS Tool Pack - it's a great, FREE add-on for SQL Server Management Studio which does a lot of things - among other it can generate INSERT statements from a given table.

SQL Server Management Studio 2012 - Export all tables of database as csv

The export wizard allows only one at a time. I used the powershell script to export all my tables into csv. Please try this if it helps you.

$server = "SERVERNAME\INSTANCE"
$database = "DATABASE_NAME"
$tablequery = "SELECT schemas.name as schemaName, tables.name as tableName from sys.tables inner join sys.schemas ON tables.schema_id = schemas.schema_id"

#Delcare Connection Variables
$connectionTemplate = "Data Source={0};Integrated Security=SSPI;Initial Catalog={1};"
$connectionString = [string]::Format($connectionTemplate, $server, $database)
$connection = New-Object System.Data.SqlClient.SqlConnection
$connection.ConnectionString = $connectionString

$command = New-Object System.Data.SqlClient.SqlCommand
$command.CommandText = $tablequery
$command.Connection = $connection

#Load up the Tables in a dataset
$SqlAdapter = New-Object System.Data.SqlClient.SqlDataAdapter
$SqlAdapter.SelectCommand = $command
$DataSet = New-Object System.Data.DataSet
$SqlAdapter.Fill($DataSet)
$connection.Close()

# Loop through all tables and export a CSV of the Table Data
foreach ($Row in $DataSet.Tables[0].Rows)
{
$queryData = "SELECT * FROM [$($Row[0])].[$($Row[1])]"

#Specify the output location of your dump file
$extractFile = "C:\mssql\export\$($Row[0])_$($Row[1]).csv"

$command.CommandText = $queryData
$command.Connection = $connection

$SqlAdapter = New-Object System.Data.SqlClient.SqlDataAdapter
$SqlAdapter.SelectCommand = $command
$DataSet = New-Object System.Data.DataSet
$SqlAdapter.Fill($DataSet)
$connection.Close()

$DataSet.Tables[0] | Export-Csv $extractFile -NoTypeInformation
}

Azure SQL DB - Export data from a DB and insert into another DB?

There is no way to do this in only SSMS. If this is an ad-hoc project, I would query the records, copy and paste them into Excel, configure them in Excel for an insert statement, then paste them into an insert statement against DB-1.

If this is something that will need to be sustainable, I'd recommend looking into Azure Data Factory.
