How to listen to a TCP port using PHP?

User and library author <@Navarr> has commented that he has released a new, updated version of the library the code in my original answer was based from. A link to the new code on his github here. The below code will use the SocketServer.class.php file found here. It is meant to be run as a standalone process which means under Linux I had to make the file executable, then run it from command line using "php my_server.php".

Setup a TCP listener in PHP

To create a listening socket use the following functions:

  • socket_create_listen (this one is cool)
  • socket_accept

I'm not shure if fwrite()/fread() are working with those sockets otherwise you have to use the following functions:

  • socket_recv
  • socket_send

Message-loop

I have now written some function to read a single JSON responses with the assumption that multiple responses are separated by CRLF.
Here's how I would do it (assuming your php-script has unlimited execution time):

Now you could implement the "handleMessage" function which analyses the response and acts to it.

PHP to Listen to data on port and enter into MySQL database

Binary socket_read is blocking, see the top 2 comment on http://php.net/manual/en/function.socket-read.php. They both confirm that a PHP_BINARY_READ socket_read is blocking.

I would suggest to use a socket_select with a read timeout.

One more note:
You need to replace

while ( ! feof( $fp ) ) {
$output = fgets( $fp, 2048 );
}

with

$output=''
while ( ! feof( $fp ) ) {
$output .= fgets( $fp, 2048 );
}

Because $output = fgets( $fp, 2048 ); overwrites $output content in each iteration loop.

About your question - I think there is a some error in a service.
