Youcompleteme Can't Find Local Header Files

YouCompleteMe can't find local header files

The default .ycm_extra_conf.py doesn't look for headers in nearby include directories.

This lookup is done in JDevlieghere's configuration, which I adapted to also add a flag for the include path root (in function FlagsForInclude):

YCM does not find my headers?

Assuming the .ycm_extra_conf.py in the root of your project. There is a typo in MakeRelativePathsInFlagsAbsolute. The if statement directly after the for loop needs to be indented another level since the if statement breaks out of the outer loop instead of the inner loop.

So change

for path_flag in path_flags:
if flag == path_flag:
make_next_absolute = True
break

if flag.startswith( path_flag ):
path = flag[ len( path_flag ): ]
new_flag = path_flag + os.path.join( working_directory, path )
break

To

for path_flag in path_flags:
if flag == path_flag:
make_next_absolute = True
break

if flag.startswith( path_flag ):
path = flag[ len( path_flag ): ]
new_flag = path_flag + os.path.join( working_directory, path )
break

The final .ycm_extra_conf.py should look like this.

Useful debugging commands for YouCompleteMe is :YcmDebugInfo. This shows you the compilation flags and you would see that not all the flags are there.

how to avoid automatically adding header files after complete in Youcompleteme

I stumbled upon this problem when I switched from libclang based YCM to clangd based. The guys on the community chat helped to figure out the solution: you can add the following line into your ~/.vimrc file:

let g:ycm_clangd_args=['--header-insertion=never']

Read :help g:ycm_clangd_args and ./clangd --help-list for details on these options. It turns out there are plenty of cool configuration tweaks for clangd.
