How to Force My .Net Application to Run as Administrator

How do I force my .NET application to run as administrator?

You'll want to modify the manifest that gets embedded in the program. This works on Visual Studio 2008 and higher: Project + Add New Item, select "Application Manifest File". Change the <requestedExecutionLevel> element to:

 <requestedExecutionLevel level="requireAdministrator" uiAccess="false" />

The user gets the UAC prompt when they start the program. Use wisely; their patience can wear out quickly.

How to make application run as admin on user accounts?

You can't, not without at least an UAC prompt. This is totally unavoidable, otherwise Windows wouldn't have any security if it was possible - it MUST be totally impossible, not just "difficult", to bypass UAC.

Some clues to solve anyway your problem:

  • You can force your application to always ask for elevation (i.e. make it to require administrative privileges) since the first step. Dangerous, but at least, you won't mess the whole software chain: it would be elevated from start.
  • You can ask for UAC only when it's really needed (for example, when launching a particular sub-process, or launching your own application in elevated mode while keeping context). Obviously, you'll ask again and again until the elevated subprocess is created: if user click on "No", then you try again to launch it. Annoying, but again, you won't mess up the whole process.
  • You can write a Windows service, that will run under administrative privileges, to perform the COM cycle task you need. Then, you can invoke this service from non-elevated user space, without requiring any elevation. I would recommend this solution.

How to force my C# Winforms program run as administrator on any computer?

You can embed this manifest into your application.

<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8" ?>
<asmv1:assembly manifestVersion="1.0" xmlns="urn:schemas-microsoft-com:asm.v1" xmlns:asmv1="urn:schemas-microsoft-com:asm.v1" xmlns:asmv2="urn:schemas-microsoft-com:asm.v2" xmlns:xsi="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance">
<assemblyIdentity version="1.0.0.0" name="MyApplication" />
<trustInfo xmlns="urn:schemas-microsoft-com:asm.v2">
<security>
<requestedPrivileges xmlns="urn:schemas-microsoft-com:asm.v3">
<requestedExecutionLevel level="requireAdministrator" uiAccess="false" />
</requestedPrivileges>
</security>
</trustInfo>
</asmv1:assembly>

dotnet core app run as administrator

This is not supported on .NET Core.

.NET Core implements that (extended) subset of .NET Framework features which are known to be cross-platform.

An application requesting and receiving elevate privileges is not supported on many non-Windows platforms. Hence it is not supported by .NET Core.

(Dropping privileges, on the other hand, might be supported by more platforms)

How to make a program Run as Administrator Automatically

That is not possible because the purpose of UAC Prompt is to create awareness for the user so they know that they are allowing admin privileges to the software.

I Do not really advise you to skip the step of the prompts.

You can not do it directly but you can indirectly , if you can write a code to do the following steps here , you can achieve what you asked for.
