How to Reset or Override Ie CSS Filters

How do I reset or override IE CSS filters?

I've had some success by positioning the children absolute or relative. This didn't seem to work earlier though so it may break again once I get more complicated

I think once a parent has a filter applied all of it's children essentially become directx surfaces internally. You can still select text but it lags. I think text selection is a hack which makes each letter a seperate surface. It's a shitty mess which goes a long way to explaining why the browser in general and filters in particular are so buggy.

Reset/remove CSS styles for element only

The CSS3 keyword initial sets the CSS3 property to the initial value as defined in the spec. The initial keyword has broad browser support except for the IE and Opera Mini families.

Since IE's lack of support may cause issue here are some of the ways you can reset some CSS properties to their initial values:

As mentioned in a comment by @user566245 :

this is correct in principle, but individual mileage may vary. For
example certain elements like textarea by default have a border,
applying this reset will render those textarea's border less.

JAVASCRIPT ?

Nobody thought about other than css to reset css? Yes?

There is that snip fully relevant : https://stackoverflow.com/a/14791113/845310

getElementsByTagName("*") will return all elements from DOM. Then you
may set styles for each element in the collection:

answered Feb 9 '13 at 20:15 by VisioN

var allElements = document.getElementsByTagName("*");
for (var i = 0, len = allElements.length; i < len; i++) {
var element = allElements[i];
// element.style.border = ...
}

With all this said; i don't think a css reset is something feasable unless we end up with only one web browser .. if the 'default' is set by browser in the end.

For comparison, here is Firefox 40.0 values list for a

CSS property filter: invert(80%) not working with IE

Invert is not supported in IE

How to override a filter:none in CSS

Extracted from this answer

Microsoft introduced -ms-filter to make Internet Explorer more
standards-compliant (CSS 2.1 requires vendor extensions to have vendor
prefix). As the syntax of original filter property is not CSS 2.1
compliant, IE8+ requires the value of the -ms-filter property to be
enclosed in quotation marks.

-ms-filter: "progid:DXImageTransform.Microsoft.gradient(enabled=false)" /* IE 8+ */;
filter: none !important; /* IE 7 and the rest of the world */

As you said, you need to override an existing style, so append !important

-ms-filter: "progid:DXImageTransform.Microsoft.gradient(enabled=false) !important";

If you were wondering, quotations ARE required for this microsoft (-ms) vendor prefix. As you see this use case uses MS's gradients, interject that with whatever filter property you wish to override.

Change color of PNG image via CSS?

You can use filters with -webkit-filter and filter:
Filters are relatively new to browsers but supported in over 90% of browsers according to the following CanIUse table: https://caniuse.com/#feat=css-filters

You can change an image to grayscale, sepia and lot more (look at the example).

So you can now change the color of a PNG file with filters.

body {
background-color:#03030a;
min-width: 800px;
min-height: 400px
}
img {
width:20%;
float:left;
margin:0;
}
/*Filter styles*/
.saturate { filter: saturate(3); }
.grayscale { filter: grayscale(100%); }
.contrast { filter: contrast(160%); }
.brightness { filter: brightness(0.25); }
.blur { filter: blur(3px); }
.invert { filter: invert(100%); }
.sepia { filter: sepia(100%); }
.huerotate { filter: hue-rotate(180deg); }
.rss.opacity { filter: opacity(50%); }

Fix CSS Shadow Issue in Interner Explorer

You can get CSS to test whether filter is supported by the browser in modern browsers. @support isn't supported in IE so it just ignores the setting of the background to black so it's there but not seen.

Here's an example snippet - obviously hasn't got all the right sizing that your code will have.

<style>
.service_group {}

.uk-box-shadow-bottom {
position: relative;
}

.service_group:hover .uk-box-shadow-bottom:before {
content: '';
position: absolute;
bottom: -20px;
left: 0;
right: 0;
height: 20px;
border-radius: 100%;
/*background: #000;*/
/*filter: blur(20px);*/
height: 40px;
}

@supports (filter: blur()) {
.service_group:hover .uk-box-shadow-bottom:before {
background: #000;
filter: blur(20px);
}
}
</style>
<div class="service_group">Just some info so I can hover
<div class="uk-box-shadow-bottom"></div>
</div>

Css - Overriding Internet Explorer specific styles

progid:DXImageTransform.Microsoft.gradient(enabled = false) !important;

should do the trick. You can also try :

filter: none;

Apply dashboard filter from slice other than Filter Box

The "Table" visualization is currently the only other visualization outside than "Filter Box" that's been set up to (optionally) emit dashboard filter events. Here's how it's implemented:

https://github.com/apache/incubator-superset/blob/master/superset/assets/visualizations/table.js#L130

The interface for the visualization is a function that receives the slice and payload params. The slice object exposes a addFiler and removeFilter as shown in the example above.

So it's a matter or setting up your visualization to emit the proper filtering events by using the slice object.
