How to validate an Email in PHP?

You can use the filter_var() function, which gives you a lot of handy validation and sanitization options.

filter_var($email, FILTER_VALIDATE_EMAIL)

If you don't want to change your code that relied on your function, just do:

function isValidEmail($email){ 
    return filter_var($email, FILTER_VALIDATE_EMAIL) !== false;
}

Note: For other uses (where you need Regex), the deprecated ereg function family (POSIX Regex Functions) should be replaced by the preg family (PCRE Regex Functions). There are a small amount of differences, reading the Manual should suffice.

Update 1: As pointed out by @binaryLV:

PHP 5.3.3 and 5.2.14 had a bug related to
FILTER_VALIDATE_EMAIL, which resulted in segfault when validating
large values. Simple and safe workaround for this is using strlen()
before filter_var(). I'm not sure about 5.3.4 final, but it is
written that some 5.3.4-snapshot versions also were affected.

This bug has already been fixed.

Update 2: This method will of course validate bazmega@kapa as a valid email address, because in fact it is a valid email address. But most of the time on the Internet, you also want the email address to have a TLD: bazmega@kapa.com. As suggested in this blog post (link posted by @Istiaque Ahmed), you can augment filter_var() with a regex that will check for the existence of a dot in the domain part (will not check for a valid TLD though):

As @Eliseo Ocampos pointed out, this problem only exists before PHP 5.3, in that version they changed the regex and now it does this check, so you do not have to.

How to validate email address by domain using PHP?

TRY with checkdnsrr extract the domain name from the email address and pass to the checkdnsrr.

Returns TRUE if domain name are found; returns FALSE if no domain name
were found or if an error occurred.

$domainname = "domain.com";

$isValid = filter_var($email, FILTER_VALIDATE_EMAIL);

To check if the email adress is a gmail address, the following would do the trick:

Email validation using regular expression in PHP

Use this instead of a regular expression:

if(filter_var($email, FILTER_VALIDATE_EMAIL)) {
     //Valid email!
}

Using regular expressions to validate email addresses is not recommended as it is certainly not pretty, especially if you don't want to exclude somebody who has a valid email address that is correct according to RFC 822 grammar.

http://www.php.net/filter_var is your best bet.

filter_var : validate array of email addresses

Something like this you need to do,

$emails = 'bill@microsoft.com, test.com, obama@usa.gov';
$emails = explode(', ', $email);
$filterd_emails = array();
foreach($emails as $email){
    if(!filter_var($email, FILTER_VALIDATE_EMAIL)){
        $error['Other'][] = "<div class=error>$email is not valid Email.</div>";
    }else{
        $filtere_emails[] = $email
    }
}

EDIT

Now you've all validated emails stored in $filtered_emails. Here are two different scenarios.

1) You want to send emails to all filtered_emails (that pass the criteria), no matter how many pass the criteria.

//$emails = 'bill@microsoft.com, test.com, obama@usa.gov';
$filtered_emails = array('bill@microsoft.com', 'obama@usa.gov');

for that you can use following approach, it'll skip test.com and will send email to other two

if(count($filtered_emails) > 0)
foreach($filtered_emails as $filtered_email){
    //send email here. email($filtered_email);
}

2) you don't want to send email any person if any of input emails failed to pass validation.

e.g. test.com has failed to pass the criteria, and you don't want to send email at all(to other two bill@microsoft.com and obama@usa.gov)

in this case,

if(count($error['other'])>0){
    //display error and exit
}

it's now totally up to you which technique you want to use.
