Autolayout is ignored in custom TableViewCell
Figured it out. For anyone else who may have this problem in the future. You need to click on the content view in the Storyboard and go to the indemnity inspector. Then from there make sure the Class is set to the default of UIView and not the custom class of the TableView Cell.
Autolayout is ignored in Custom UITableViewCell
Auto-layout was ignored because both the prototype cell AND the UIView of the cell had been given the custom cell class in IB.
Setting the UIView back to UIView class solved the problem.
Customized UITableViewCell constraints seem to be ignored
Based on the images you've shown, you're doing a few things wrong.
First, for your attempt with a XIB, you've used a UIView in the xib. It should be a UITableViewCell.
Second, the prototype layout... most of it looks correct (ish). You've given Class Name Label leading and trailing constraints and a centerX constraint. The centerX constraint doesn't do anything, because the label will already stretch to the leading and trailing values. Also, your Stack View leading constraint should probably be relative to the trailing edge of the Star Image View, not to the leading of the cell.
Look at the constraints shown here:
The cell shows as "cell" because that's the Reuse Identifier I've given it, but the Custom Class is set to EducationTableCell.

Auto layout with custom UITableViewCell without storyboard programmatically (Swift 5)
To get automatic sizing, you need to do 3 things:
- Set
estimatedRowHeightto whatever you think the size will be. It doesn't have to be exact, but it helps with performance. - Set
rowHeighttoUITableView.automaticDimension. - Set
top&bottomconstraints of theviewas well as aheightconstraint.
UITableViewCell Autolayout issues (iOS 11, Xcode 9.2)
That height makes sense, because you've set the ImageView to a static height and then bound its top and bottom to the content view. This stops the cell from growing any taller.
You'll need to allow the image height to grow or remove the top or bottom constraint so the cell's height isn't limited by the image view.
Try these constraints:
- Image View Height/Width
- Image View Leading = Cell Leading
- Image View Top = Cell Top
- Or center vertically or whatever you'd like.
- Basically, just set the Y position for the image view somehow
- Label Leading = Image View Trailing
- Label Top = Cell Top
- Label Bottom = Cell Bottom
- Label Trailing = Cell Trailing
- Label Height >= Image View Height
- To stop the label (and therefore, the cell) from collapsing smaller than the image view
