I had major issues with the update as well. In my case my project uses a library that also depends on another library. I found that I needed to check the box for Android Private Libraries in the order/export tab of the Java Build Path for the project - and each of my connected libraries -- to properly compile and run the app on a device.

Some others have indicated that you need to also check Android Dependencies too but that doesn't seem necessary for my project.

How to fix build tools (22.0.0/1) dependency issues

it happens because of build tools inconsistency. Firstly make sure 22 is installed then 23rc is not installed.

After that in your Android Studio Open Gradle Scripts >> build.gradle (Module:app). Make sure the installed build tool which is 22.0.1 in me is declared here. After changing the numbers make sure you rebuild/sync/refresh the project. And you are done.
Note: Make sure this is done to all of your projects

Today me and one of my friends faced the same problem, so I have tried many things like restarting eclipse, checking updates, etc. but none was working for me.

Then I found a solution from Here and it's working as a charm for me and also for my friend.

Follow the steps here:

• Start Eclipse, then select Help > Install New Software.
• Click Add, in the top-right corner.

• In the Add Repository dialog that appears, enter "ADT Plugin" for the
  Name and the following URL for the Location:

  https://dl-ssl.google.com/android/eclipse/

• Click OK.

If you have trouble acquiring the plugin, try using "http" in the Location URL, instead of "https" (https is preferred for security reasons).

• In the Available Software dialog, select the checkbox next to
  Developer Tools and click Next.
• In the next window, you'll see a list of the tools to be downloaded.
  Click Next. Read and accept the license agreements, then click
  Finish.
• If you get a security warning saying that the authenticity or
  validity of the software can't be established, click OK.
• When the installation completes, restart Eclipse.

Updating to Android SDK Tools R22

Update Android SDK Tool to 22.0.4(Latest Version) from 22.0.1

I viewed the Eclipse ADT documentation and found out the way to get around this issue. I was able to Update My SDK Tool to 22.0.4 (Latest Version).

Solution is: First Update ADT to 22.0.4(Latest version) and then Update SDK Tool to
22.0.4(Latest Version)

ADT 22.0.4 is designed for use with SDK Tools r22.0.4. If you haven't
already installed SDK Tools r22.0.4 into your SDK, use the Android SDK
Manager to do so

What I had to do was update my ADT to 22.0.4 (Latest Version) and then I was able to update SDK tool to 22.0.4. I thought only SDK Tool has been updated not ADT, so I was updating the SDK Tool with Older ADT Version (22.0.1).

How to Update your ADT to Latest Version

1. In Eclipse go to Help
2. Install New Software ---> Add
3. inside Add Repository write the Name: ADT (or whatever you want)
4. and Location: https://dl-ssl.google.com/android/eclipse/
5. after loading you should get Developer Tools and NDK Plugins
6. check both if you want to use the Native Developer Kit (NDK) in the future or check Developer Tool only
7. click Next
8. Finish
